Five years after the release of his album “Odyssey”, Emmanuel Moire returns this Friday, April 12 with a new single entitled “Be a Man”. The singer and actor from Le Mans spoke to France Bleu Maine before his return to music.
France Bleu Maine: After five years of silence, you come back with a new single, in what state of mind?
Emmanuel Moire: I can’t wait, that’s for sure. I admit that it makes me happy to be able to come back with a title and to be able to share my work again in the song. It was a bit long compared to the previous album, but there you go, I’m not really worried, I’m letting it happen. I don’t really know if it will resonate, or not, in people’s hearts, but I have confidence in my work and I’m quite proud of it. Already proud to present it, that’s for sure.
What message do you want to convey through your new single entitled “Be a man”?
This title represents the attitude and overall summary of the record. There’s a self-affirmation in this album that’s coming. There is letting go, there is assuming one’s singularity, one’s difference and being authentic. Obviously, it talks about masculine identity, masculine construction, everything that I have inherited, like many men, what is passed down from generation to generation and which sometimes does not suit me. I often felt like I was wearing a costume that wasn’t me. And what I also like about the part of life I’m in now is that there is a moment where we can also affirm and decide not to necessarily follow that. But I like being a man today who embraces his sensitivity. There you go, “Be a man” it calls into question this masculine identity and there is an affirmation at the same time.

Is it always the same identity, or will we find you in a different style?
It’s always difficult for me to answer, because I’m really at the heart of the project. I still have the impression that we feel at home, but that it has changed a little, let’s say that. What matters to me first and foremost is the song. Afterwards, in production, the time is no longer the same as it was five years ago or ten years ago. So maybe in my way of making the title, I’m trying to take it somewhere else. In any case, “Be a man” is perhaps more pop than songs that people know from me.
After this single, what’s next for you?
I’m already going to continue creating this record, because it’s not completely finished. The album will be planned, I think, at the end of the year and we are also obviously working on the tour which will be at the end of 2025; with a mandatory visit to Le Mans, I can’t miss it!
When you announced your return on social networks recently, you had a thought for the city of Le Mans, why?
Before returning, indeed, I posted a long message. And this message started with the city of Le Mans, because that’s where I grew up, where I learned to do my work. I had the chance to do a lot of events with the city, but also with the La Flambée association. They really taught me how to be on stage, to do around fifty shows at the end of the year, to play, to dance, to sing. It was useful to me and I started from there, that is to say the young artist that I was at the time, he already had this experience and it was at Le Mans that I had this experience. So obviously, I have this connection there. And then, I am attached to it because I have my roots, because I have my family who still live in the region. Well, I go there less often than before, but obviously I’m happy to come back because that’s where I grew up.

“Thank you Le Mans”: Emmanuel Moire pays tribute to his hometown and announces his return to music
The famous musical comedy “The Sun King” is going to make a comeback, will you be part of the adventure once again?
I will not comment on this question, unfortunately. Because we are in talks with the entire team that is reassembling the King. There are several factors that come into play and for the moment, we are under discussion. I’m not closed at all, on the contrary, but there are plenty of things that make it feasible or not feasible and for the moment nothing has been decided.
“Be a man” can be listened to from this Friday, April 12, on all platforms and on France Bleu Maine.
