Emmanuel Macron will visit the STMicroelectronics company in Crolles on Tuesday

Emmanuel Macron will visit the site of the semiconductor manufacturer STMicroelectronics in Crolles on Tuesday. He will reveal the investments planned for the development of the microelectronics sector, while the company has just announced the construction of a new factory for an investment of 5.7 billion euros.

A visit on the theme of reindustrialisation. Emmanuel Macron will go on Tuesday July 12 to the STMicroelectronics company in Crolles, in Isère, when the latter has just announced the construction of a factory near Grenoble with a thousand jobs at stake.

The Head of State will notably be accompanied by the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, and the government spokesperson, the Isérois Olivier Véran. Emmanuel Macron will visit the premises of the company before announcing, during a speech, “the strategy and investments for electronics within the framework (from the investment plan, editor’s note) France 2030″, writes the Elysée in a press release. More than 5 billion euros will be allocated by the State to the development of the microelectronics sector, “strategic for ecological and digital transitions.”

GlobalFoundries and STMicroelectronics have just announced the construction of a factory to produce semiconductors. The investment is estimated at 5.7 billion euros. The project is expected to create approximately 1 000 additional jobs at the Crolles site, where STMicroelectronics already has a large manufacturing site, and will benefit from a “significant financial support from the French State”according to the two companies. “The Crolles site will thus become the largest French chip production site and one of the largest in Europe”underlines the Elysée.

This project is the jewel of the investment program and the “Choose France” summit, intended to promote the attractiveness of France, which is being held on Monday at the Palace of Versailles in the presence of Emmanuel Macron. The new factory “will contribute significantly to the objectives of the European ‘Chips Act’ plan, one of the aims of which is to increase Europe’s production capacity to 20 % of global capacity by 2030″said the two companies.

“This major investment over several years aims not only to produce advanced technology semiconductors in Europe, but also to support the leadership and resilience of European technology ecosystems, from research and development to high-volume production, and thus meet the demand of European and global customers”, according to the press release. The semiconductors produced in the new factory will notably serve end markets “such as automotive, industrial, IoT and communication infrastructure”.
