Emmanuel Macron Shows Support for Opening World’s Largest Video Game Museum in France

Emmanuel Macron announced on Sunday that he was providing his “support” for the project to open the largest video game museum in the world in France, supported by YouTuber Benoît Theveny alias Tev, thanks to crowdfunding.

“I simply wanted to give you my support and my high patronage for your video game museum project, an active museum, a living city,” declared the head of state in a video message broadcast on Tev’s Twitch channel, “This is Japan”. “You raised a lot of money with your participatory project. It’s amazing. We will be there to make things easier for you, to support you, to see this project through to the end and you can count on my support,” insisted Emmanuel Macron.

1.75 million euros collected

Tev had collected more than 1.75 million euros for his project, called Odyssey and launched six weeks ago. His idea: to open a museum housing the largest collection of consoles in the world, brought together by a enthusiast in the field, Ludovic Charles, who by dint of accumulating pieces (2,200), encountered storage and preservation problems.

The museum should therefore see the light of day in 2026 in Bussy-Saint-Georges (Seine-et-Marne), in a space of 3,500 m², thanks to online financing which has been very successful, with more than 22,000 contributions Sunday morning, a few hours before the call for donations closed.

The place should make it possible to retrace the history of video games but also house a Japanese village “offering shops, restaurants and various activities linked to Japanese popular culture”, says the entrepreneur.

This collection comes as Paris Games Week 2023 takes place, the largest video game fair in France, which closes its doors on Sunday.
