A popularity on the rise, but still fragile. Approval of the action
Emmanuel Macron jumped 13 points in the midst of the coronavirus crisis and that of
Edouard Philippe progresses by 7, according to an Ifop Fiducial poll published on Tuesday.

With 46% (+13) of respondents who positively judge his action, the Head of State finds a level he had not reached since February 2018. But a majority (54%, -13) still judges it negatively, according to this monthly survey for Paris Match and Sud Radio.

The latest polls as a whole show a sharp rise in popularity for Emmanuel Macron linked to the health crisis. But while the French are closing ranks behind the executive, their confidence in the government to manage the crisis is rapidly decreasing.

Macron’s action judged in a mixed way

The rating of Edouard Philippe, very exposed in the management of the epidemic, climbs to a lesser extent, to 43% (+7), and returns to its level of June 2018, according to Ifop. A clear majority (57%, -7) judge its action unfavorably at the head of the government.

If the coronavirus crisis upsets the judgment of the French, their approval of the various aspects of Emmanuel Macron’s action remains mixed, apart from the health emergency: 54% (+4) consider that it defends the interests of France abroad, but only 32% (+8) still consider it close to their concerns.

Survey carried out online from March 26 to 27 among 1,007 people aged 18 and over, using the quota method. Margin of error from 1.4 to 3.1 points.
