Emmanuel Guibert at the Academy of Fine Arts !. No wonder the creator of Alan’s War and you Photographer be present within these walls, the most prestigious of the Republic in terms of art. Guibert is a true artist, always with enthusiasm, empathy and experimentation. A radiant personality who was involved in the emergence of a new generation of exceptional designers who will mark our time: Catherine Meurisse, Marjane Satrapi, Joann Sfar, Émile Bravo, Blutch, or Christophe Blain to recite nobody else but them. Of all of them, he is certainly the freest and the most empathetic. Like Catherine Meurisse, elected to the Academy – the first in the “comic strip” category, her reference is art, in what it has more noble, more human, more universal.

Are the Beaux-Arts opening its picture rails to him? It is of his friends that he thinks: of the American Alan Ingram Cope, the hero of Alan’s War (The Association) and the titles attached to it, and Didier Lefèvre, reporter-photographer, with whom he realized The photograph (Dupuis editions). Obviously it is he who, indirectly, is celebrated, but he does so by interposed friendship, bringing these two figures whose memory he has shaped into that of each of his readers, reaching what art aspires to, to final: to eternity.

This is reflected in his little book ” Legends: drawing in museumss ”(Dupuis edition) composed of free-drawing sketches made while visiting museums. This way of doing things, which perpetuates academic teaching precisely, is the best way to approach the work of art: without subjection, as an equal… as an artist!

Alan’s Music at Vision Fugitive

He is accompanied in the exhibition adventure by Philippe Ghielmetti, one of the greatest French model makers, the only one to have won an Eisner Award and a Harvey Award “Best Publication Design” for the book Little Nemo (Sunday Press) in 2009. He is the reference graphic designer of the Angoulême Festival and of the magnificent integrals of classics by Dupuis.

He is here to accompany Guibert, the real curator of the exhibition, but here again, under the seal of friendship: music publisher under the label ‘Vision Fugitive’, he called on Guibert to illustrate the covers of his collection of records and especially “Alan’s music”, inspired by Emmanuel’s albums, where a group of Franco-American musicians compose and improvise around the biography of Alan Ingram Cope. The disc, released in August 2020, is a pure moment of happiness.
