Emma Watson wanted to quit Harry Potter after four films | Stars

entertainment">In the special, actors Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and many other collaborators look back on twenty years of Harry Potter. Director David Yates reveals that just before shooting for the fifth film, it was not certain whether the then 16-year-old Watson was on board.

entertainment">Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, says that’s understandable because Emma was not only younger than the rest, but also didn’t really have a regular buddy on the set in those years. “People sometimes forget what she took on and how well she did it,” says Tom. Emma agrees that she was sometimes alone. “I could see that I felt lonely at times,” she says in the special about notes she made in her diary at the time.

entertainment">The period around The Order of the Phoenix from 2017 is described by the actors, who were all just or barely mature at the time, as a ‘spicy time’. They also say that they all sometimes had doubts, but never really talked about it with each other. “I think we just went through it at our own pace,” said Rupert, who played Ron Wezel. “We were a bit in the moment at the time. It just didn’t occur to us that we had similar feelings.”

entertainment">As is well known, none of the actors eventually quit, and they all starred in eight films. “In the end, no one had to convince me to persevere,” Emma says. “The fans wanted it to succeed and they were all behind us. How awesome is that?!”

entertainment">The two-hour special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts appeared on the streaming service HBO Max on January 1 in the United States and on the Sky Channel in the United Kingdom. HBO Max will also launch in the Netherlands sometime in 2022. An official date has not yet been announced.
