Last year, Emma announced that Bruce suffers from aphasia. In February of this year, the diagnosis of FTD was added. FTD often occurs at a relatively young age and there is no treatment for it. According to Alzheimer Nederland, the disease causes severe changes in behavior, language skills and motor skills. Memory problems often only occur at a later stage.
Since his diagnosis, Emma has been trying to learn as much as possible about the condition. As she walks the red carpet of the documentary’s premiere this week Little Empty Boxes she is asked about Bruce’s current health condition. “If you yourself have to deal with dementia for any reason, then you know that the treatment options are really nil,” she explains. “But not everyone just accepts that and that is exactly the way we can make a change in this area.”
