Frankenstein myth renewed
With the film “Poor Thing”, the director Mary Shelley’s Frankestein myth probably wants to brush something against the grain. In any case, on the basis of Alasdair Gray’s novel of the same name, he will, as usual, choose an atypical approach to the famous material.
We then experience Emma Stone under the name Bella Baxter as a volatile, oversexualized, emancipated female Frankenstein variant. After the woman tried to escape her husband’s attacks by suicide, the drowned woman is implanted with the brain of her unborn child and resuscitated.
The script was written by Tony McNamara, who had already worked on the script for “The Favorite”. According to “Empireonline” shooting is scheduled to start this autumn. And that is not the last cooperation between Stone and Lanthimos: Allegedly she will also work on his short film for the Greek National Opera.
