Emma Roberts wants to play Britney Spears in the biopic of the pop star – Diario La Página – 2024-09-01 10:04:34

Emma Roberts is hoping to get the role of Britney Spears in the upcoming biopic about the pop star.

The 33-year-old ‘American Horror Story’ actress is rumoured to be in the running to play the 42-year-old singer in Universal’s upcoming Spears film, and has said it would be a dream come true if she landed the lead role.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan, the actress said: “It’s my real dream to play Britney Spears. It’s a rumor, but I hope it comes true. I mean, I remember locking myself in my room and listening to ‘In the Zone’ and saying, ‘I can’t leave this room until I memorize every word.'”

The ‘Madame Web’ star was full of praise for the ‘…Baby One More Time’ singer and revealed that she constantly sings Spears’ biggest songs to her three-year-old son Rhodes, who she has with ex-partner Garrett Hedlund.

She said: “I mean, I sing Britney to my son in the bath all the time. I’m always like, ‘God, he must think I’m so weird.’ That’s millennial motherhood.”

Roberts has been linked to the film – which will adapt the singer’s memoir ‘The Woman in Me’ and is being directed by ‘Wicked’ filmmaker Jon M. Chu – after Britney’s former assistant Felicia Culotta, who worked with the star from 1997 to 2007, told TMZ that the actress would be a good fit for the role.

Culotta also suggested that Drew Barrymore would be a good choice to play her in the film, and singled out Timothée Chalamet as an ideal candidate for the role of Justin Timberlake, who dated the singer from 1999 to 2002.

Although plot details for the film are being kept under wraps, Spears is believed to have creative control over the script and casting.
