Set in Bogotá in the 1920s, this production narrates the harsh experience that Emma went through during her childhood, after her mother abandoned her at a train station, when she was only four years old.

From his birth he was the object of heartbreak and a prey of extreme poverty. Illiterate until she was 18 years old, as she was never in a classroom, she remained locked up, together with her sister, in a convent for 15 years, embroidering garments for borrowing families and members of the church.

However, the harshness of those early years was what made Emma Reyes a woman determined to break with the schemes of her time and what led her to escape to hitch a ride, seek other worlds. This is how he arrived in Buenos Aires and obtained a scholarship to study in Paris where he developed his innate talent. The squares and markets of the various Latin American countries through which he passed were etched in his mind to be later captured in drawings and paintings.

“In her work as a painter you could see her obsession with the tropics and in her works she showed her exuberance. She was also recognized for her figurative painting by capturing still lifes, nature and ordinary people ”, assures her friend and historian Alvaro Medina, one of the many with whom the production company spoke during the exhaustive investigation that led them to travel to France to meet friends and acquaintances of the artist, in the same place where she lived.

Emma exhibited her work in the world, moved in the art universe between France, Italy and Israel until she reached Mexico. Supported Fridha Kahlo in the organization of one of her last exhibitions, a friendly detail that forged a close relationship with the Mexican artist and her partner Diego Rivera.

Emma Reyes, the trace of childhood collects the contrast between adulthood and childhood, the very marked difference in social classes, constant abandonment, the weight of religious dogma, the self-discovery of femininity and sexuality; and the beginning of art in the hands of this artist.
