British tennis star Emma Raducanu is gearing up for the new season with a renewed focus on physical conditioning. The 22-year-old has enlisted the expertise of renowned fitness coach Yutaka Nakamura,known for his work with tennis greats Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka.
Raducanu, who will head too Brisbane next week for warm-weather training, revealed that Nakamura will be a regular fixture on her team, joining her “pretty much most weeks” of the year.
As her stunning US Open victory in 2021, Raducanu’s career has been hampered by recurring injuries. However, after a trial period with Nakamura earlier this autumn, she believes the time is right to incorporate a dedicated fitness expert into her support system.
“I think he is going to help me just really explore how far I can go, like athletically,” Raducanu said. “I think it’s a big strength of mine that I have nowhere near fulfilled. Following a Christmas break in New Zealand, Raducanu will kick off her 2024 season in Auckland at the end of December, with plans to compete in Adelaide before the australian Open commences on January 12th.
