Instagram is one of the social media where you can now tell on your profile if you want to be called she, he, hen or they / them.
It was already in May that social media made it possible for users in some countries to attach their preferred pronoun, wrote among other things CBS. This function will now be available in Norway and the rest of the world.

– I think that is very nice and important. We live in a society where not everyone feels that they belong to “him” or “she” and then I think it’s great that Instagram gives people the opportunity to define themselves the way they want. It shows that you have been heard, says Ellingsen Dagbladet.

– Everyone has their own opinions about it, and I think it is super sad and strange that you can not understand other people’s feelings. Hopefully, Instagram’s decision can contribute to more acceptance, says Ellingsen.

In May, artist Demi Lovato came out as non-binary and uses the pronouns de / dem about themselves.
