The 19-year-old performed a gender-correcting operation at Rikshospitalet in May.
She should actually have had surgery in August 2020, but because of the corona this was postponed.
– The operation has gone well. This was long-awaited, now I need peace and time to recover, she says to Good evening Norway.
She would also like to thank everyone who has supported her along the way.
Ellingsen’s manager, Tone Christensen, says that the operation was successful.
– Now she uses the days to recover 100 percent in a normal everyday life, and gathers strength with the family on Nøtterøy. Emma appreciates peace and quiet during this period.
The 19-year-old posted the following post on Instagram on Thursday afternoon:
A long journey
Ellingsen was born with the name Tobias, but changed this to Emma at a young age.
She began the gender-correcting journey with puberty-delaying tablets, and when she turned 16, she started taking female hormone supplements.
The influencer visited Good evening Norway’s studio in August last year, in connection with the participation in the TV 2 Play series The Bloggers. Then she explained what the expectations were for the corrective operation.
– Such an operation is a great strain on the body and psyche. I go in there completely healthy and I also come out and can not go in a week, Ellingsen explained.
Been open
Ellingsen was born with a different gender than what she identifies with, and has told about this in several TV programs, including Born in the wrong body from 2014.
She was only 15 years old when the TV viewers got to know her in this program, and the documentary ended up winning a Gullrute award.
This is not the only generous award she has been honored with in recent years, in 2018 she was named “influencer of the year” at the Celebrity Gala.
She has been very open about the whole process, and on Instagram and YouTube she is praised for normalizing not recognizing herself in her biological gender.
On Instagram she has well over 700,000 followers, and on YouTube she has 425,000 subscribers and just under 30 million plays.
She has also received praise for the book “Emma”, where she openly told about being born in the wrong sex. VG gave the book a roll of the dice and called it “groundbreaking”.
