Emirati Astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi Talks about Practicing Jiu-Jitsu in Space: Benefits and Challenges

ABU DHABI, 30th July, 2020 (WAM) — The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation organized an interactive session with Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi, during a video call, in which he talked about his experience of practicing jiu-jitsu in space and the benefits he derives from practicing this sport.

Al Neyadi succeeded in entering history as the first Arab astronaut to practice jujitsu at his headquarters on the International Space Station.

Brigadier General Mohammed Humaid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, member of the Board of Directors of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, inaugurated the interactive session in the presence of Fahd Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary General of the UAE and Asian Federations of Jiu-Jitsu, representatives of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, players of the national team, as well as representatives of the federation’s strategic partners.

The session lasted for 40 minutes, during which the astronaut discussed his exceptional experience in defying zero gravity and practicing jiu-jitsu in space.

Al Neyadi congratulated the national team for winning the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship title for the fourth year in a row, and for achieving an unprecedented achievement, stressing that this is the true metal of the heroes who feel proud, proud and belonging to this dear country and its leadership, and they make every effort to keep its flag raised in all forums.

Brigadier General Mohammed Humaid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, member of the Board of Directors of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, welcomed Sultan Al Neyadi, explaining that he represents the role model and model that creators follow, and his achievements highlight the values ​​of dedication and persistence, and contribute to highlighting the progress and development that the country has reached by raising its flag high among the stars. .

He said: “Sultan’s experience and his insistence on practicing jiu-jitsu in space reflects the firm determination of the people of the country, and embodies the relentless pursuit of excellence, creativity and leadership, as well as the courage and courage to take on challenges and reach new horizons, and confirms that the impossible is not Emirati.”

Bin Dalmouj added: “Today we have the opportunity to talk with Sultan, as an astronaut and athlete who shares our passion for this sport. In response to the questions of the attendees, Al Neyadi spoke about the extent of his connection to this sport and its many positive aspects in providing the body with fitness and flexibility appropriate to the atmosphere of space. He said: “My beginning with this sport was at the university stage, and my attachment to it increased day after day, and the practice of jiu-jitsu allowed me Enhancing the capabilities of discipline, focus and the basic characteristics that an astronaut must have while performing his mission.

Al Neyadi thanked the wise leadership, which believes that investing in building people is the true wealth of the nation, and the cornerstone of its attainment of an advanced position among nations, praising the role of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation in supporting the nation’s ambitious sons and its leadership in spreading sports and making champions.

In turn, Fahd Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE and Asian federations, praised the achievements of the Emirati astronaut, Sultan Al Neyadi, stressing that he represents a good example for the sons and daughters of the country, and a source of inspiration for creators whose dreams and aspirations have no limits, pointing out that he feels proud and honored on this occasion as he is surrounded by the stars of the national team.
