Emirates Writers and Writers Union Announces New Strategic Plan and the Return of Ghanem Ghobash Short Story Award

Sharjah, September 28 / WAM / The Emirates Writers and Writers Union announced its new strategic plan for the year 2023-2024, in addition to the return of the Ghanem Ghobash Short Story Award.

This came during the press conference held today at its headquarters in Sharjah, in the presence of Sultan Al Amimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Aisha Sultan, Vice President, Sheikha Al Jabri, Chairman of the Administrative Board of the Abu Dhabi Branch, and Sheikha Al Mutairi, Amir Al-Sir Al-General, who managed the conference.

Sultan Al Amimi stressed that the plan expresses the future of the Union and the new stage in its journey, and also includes working through the ten principles announced by the UAE, in conjunction with the fiftieth, indicating that the Union always seeks to develop its cultural work and continue giving, through sponsoring writers and discovering… Talents, supporting them, preserving the Arabic language and enhancing identity with the participation of various age groups, as part of this is an annual event on Emirati Writer’s Day.

He pointed to enhancing the presence of creative products for all generations in the Union’s publications and cultural programs throughout the year, as well as enhancing the external participation of Union members.

Al Amimi pointed out the importance of the presence of Emirati literature in the basic and higher educational curricula, strengthening the union’s media presence, and keeping pace with developments in modern media.
He stressed that the Union seeks to find stable sources of income that will achieve financial and administrative stability and enhance the implementation of its strategic plan, in addition to supporting the Union’s members and highlighting them locally and internationally.

Writer Aisha Sultan, Vice President of the Emirates Writers and Writers Union, spoke about the return of the Ghanem Ghobash Short Story Award, as the late man contributed to establishing the first Emirati Writers and Writers Union in 1984, in addition to his tangible role, whether through his literary project or his contribution to enriching the local cultural scene.
During the conference, the writer Sheikha Al Jabri, Head of the Administrative Board of the Abu Dhabi Branch, discussed the Union’s cultural program, noting that it included many workshops in support of the strategic plan.
The union’s strategic plan coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of its founding, and it is a plan that outlines the union’s future approach for the next ten years (2023 – 2033) and constitutes a new stage in the journey of the Emirates Writers and Writers Union, to work in light of the ten principles announced by the UAE government in the next fifty years. This strategic plan also expresses the desire of the Emirates Writers and Writers Union to establish an advanced approach to the cultural work of the Union, ensuring the highest levels of giving and support for the cultural and creative movements in the country.

The strategic plan of the Emirates Writers and Writers Union 2023-2033 includes the vision, mission, and a number of strategic values ​​and objectives, under which are a number of operational objectives that help achieve the strategy, including nurturing writers and writers in the Emirates, discovering young talents, and supporting them, to sustain the cultural and literary movement in the country and develop it creatively. And cognitively through awards, publications, translation, developing the Union’s website, organizing an annual forum for writers, qualifying young leaders and enabling them to manage cultural work in the Union, holding specialized annual cultural forums, launching an annual cultural initiative, activating the Social Solidarity Fund, as well as ensuring the preservation of On the classical Arabic language in creative and intellectual production by participating in conferences on the Arabic language, holding cultural events on Arabic Language Day, and enhancing the presence of the proper Arabic language in the Union’s publications.

In addition to ensuring the participation of the various generations in the Emirates in creating the creative, intellectual and cultural scene in the country in line with pride in the authentic local identity, this is through holding an annual event with the participation of the various generations of writers in the Emirates on Emirati Writer’s Day and enhancing the presence of the creative product of the various generations in the Union’s publications and cultural programs. Throughout the year and enhancing the presence of Emirati creatives of all generations in external participations, and expanding the activities of the Writers Union in all the emirates of the country, through administrative branches or cultural clubs, in cooperation with various cultural and official institutions in the Emirates and concluding strategic partnerships with various cultural and educational institutions and public benefit associations in All emirates of the country. The plan also included enhancing the presence of cultural clubs that complement the Union’s activities in the Emirates and regions where there are no Union branches, ensuring the presence of Emirati literature in the curricula of the educational and postgraduate levels, and discovering, attracting and supporting promising literary talents through signing joint cooperation agreements and holding joint events in institutions. Cultural and holding competitions to discover creative talents, and enhancing the presence of the Emirates Writers and Writers Union in the media by developing media tools and media in line with contemporary and future media development.

The strategic plan included developing the website of the Writers Union, developing the Union’s archive, increasing the outlets for selling the Union’s publications, as well as developing the digital presence of the Union’s publications and activities, and concluding cooperation and partnership agreements with various media institutions to highlight the role of the Union in the cultural scene, and enhancing the presence of the Emirates Writers and Writers Union and its members by highlighting their creativity. In the Arab and international cultural scene by signing cooperation and partnership agreements with various Arab and international federations, participating in various external cultural events, as well as achieving financial and administrative stability in line with the Federation’s initiatives and activities and implementing the strategic plan to the fullest extent.
