DUBAI, 13th February, 2020 (WAM) — Her Excellency Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and the Future, Vice President of the World Government Summit Foundation, confirmed that the World Government Summit is the largest global government gathering, including government leaders, officials from the private sector, and the best global minds from experts. And specialists, to discuss the challenges facing governments in the future, reformulate the concept of government work, and enhance its readiness for the future.
This came during a speech by His Excellency Ohood Al-Roumi at the opening of the Gulf Experiences Forum, which was launched as part of the first day of the World Government Summit 2023, with the aim of highlighting the readiness of Gulf governments for the future.
Her Excellency referred to the importance of talents to support the readiness of future governments, where she said, “Human resources have witnessed rapid changes over the past two years, thanks to the continuous technological development, and that the “Covid 19″ pandemic imposed a new reality, such as remote work and flexible working hours,” pointing out that these Changes are integrated with global trends, and together they are expected to form the new generation of human resources for the next decade.
His Excellency Ohood Al-Roumi identified five main directions that will shape the future of work in the coming years, namely, first: greater flexibility in work environments. For example, 69% of global government institutions provided flexible work options, and witnessed an improvement in their productivity, and in attracting new talents to work.
She added that the second of these trends is human resources supported by artificial intelligence, as technology has changed the way institutions are managed, the mechanism by which employees perform their work, and provided means to manage business faster and more efficiently, and artificial intelligence technologies have also become part of government work, as confirmed by a global study. 72 percent of organizations either use or plan to use AI technologies. Note that these technologies provide broader and more comprehensive horizons for completing tasks, increasing productivity, and achieving qualitative leaps in government work.
She said that the third trend is: digital skills are not limited to programmers only, as digital skills are no longer reserved for technology professionals, but have become necessary for all employees from various sectors, including the government sector, and have also become a main focus in keeping pace with the future, with estimates indicating that 375 million global employees will move to new jobs by 2030 due to technological developments.
Her Excellency Ohood Al-Roumi indicated that the fourth of these trends is that building skills is an investment in itself, as it is an important step to ensure the success of governments, institutions and individuals in investing their strategies in development, in line with the changing nature of jobs, and in this context, 50 percent of employees will need To rehabilitate their skills in the next five years, to adapt to the changing nature of jobs. While organizations keen to develop and train employees achieved returns on their investment in skills of more than 200 percent; Investing in employee skills increases their readiness for the future, increases their productivity, and improves the work environment.
She said that the fifth trend is the transition from the career ladder to the professional portfolio, which is an innovative methodology that allows the employee to design a multi-skilled career path that helps him change and develop it over time. This model encourages continuous education, skills development, creative ideas generation, and expands leadership opportunities. It offers greater flexibility in talent management.
