ABU DHABI, 15th February, 2020 (WAM) — His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him,” ordered the provision of an additional sum of $50 million for the relief of those affected by earthquakes in the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic.. in continuation of the UAE’s continuous efforts to stand by The brotherly Syrian people and providing aid to the affected people.
$20 million of the additional amount will be allocated for the implementation of humanitarian projects in response to the United Nations urgent appeal on Syria, in coordination with the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs “OCHA”..within the framework of the support provided by the UAE to the efforts of the United Nations and its humanitarian partners for more aid on All levels of relief to mitigate the repercussions of this humanitarian disaster.
His Highness the Head of State had recently directed to provide $50 million to those affected by earthquakes in the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic, in addition to another $50 million to the friendly Republic of Turkey.
For the tenth day in a row, the United Arab Emirates continues to send relief aid to those affected by earthquakes in Syria and Turkey, as the country has flown 70 planes to Syria and Turkey so far.
The UAE has flown 38 planes to Syria carrying about 1,243 tons of food and medical aid, in addition to 2,893 tents to shelter about 20,000 people. In addition to sending a search and rescue team consisting of 42 people to carry out search and rescue missions in the areas affected by the earthquakes.
On the Turkish side, the UAE sent 32 planes carrying medical equipment and materials, in addition to 927 shelter tents, benefiting nearly 5,000 people, in addition to the opening of a field hospital in the “Islahiya” area, which contains 50 beds complete with all medical supplies and devices, operating rooms, and a medical team that includes 75 doctors, nurses and assistants, in addition to To establish another hospital in Hatay with 200 beds.
The state also sent a search and rescue team consisting of 92 people to carry out search and rescue operations in the Kahramanmaraş region.
