PARIS, 14th December, 2020 (WAM) — The UAE participated in the activities of the international conference held yesterday in the French capital, Paris, in the presence of His Excellency Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Her Excellency Annalena Berbock, German Foreign Minister, and the participation of around 70 countries and organizations internationally alongside the European Union, in order to discuss mechanisms for mobilizing relief and humanitarian aid to ‘Ukraine, to help meet its water, energy, food, health and transport needs during the winter season.
His Excellency Hind Mana Saeed Al Otaiba, the country’s ambassador to the French Republic, confirmed during the conference that the UAE, since the beginning of the crisis, has been quick to extend a helping hand to alleviate the humanitarian conditions of refugees and of displaced Ukrainians, by the launch of a supply airlift carrying around 600 tons of basic food and medical supplies and 10 ambulances which were handed over to the Ukrainian authorities to deliver them within Ukraine and help Ukrainian refugees in the countries neighbors such as Poland, Moldova and Bulgaria.
His Excellency indicated that Emirati efforts also included Dubai International City for Humanitarian Services shipping hundreds of tons of relief and medical supplies and ambulances to Poland to support Ukrainian refugees, in coordination with international organizations such as the World Organization of Health, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the World Food Programme.
His Excellency said, “His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, ordered last October to provide additional $100 million worth of humanitarian aid to crisis-hit Ukrainian civilians, which is part of the continued efforts of the state to mitigate the humanitarian repercussions of the Ukrainian crisis.
At the end of his speech, His Excellency said that the UAE continues to provide relief and humanitarian support to refugees and displaced persons in Ukraine, building on the established humanitarian approach of the country’s wise leadership by reaching out to all peoples of the world to help them overcome their humanitarian crises.
