Emirates News Agency – The University of Dubai is the academic partner of the “UAE Hackathon”

Dubai, March 1st, WAM/ The University of Dubai is participating as an academic partner for the UAE Hackathon in its sixth session, which is being held under the slogan “Today’s Challenges… Tomorrow’s Solutions”. The culture of innovation is an integral part of the mechanisms for building competencies in the UAE.

His Excellency Dr. Issa Al Bastaki, President of the University of Dubai and Chairman of the Hackathon Arbitration Committee this year, stressed the importance of these competitions in encouraging and promoting a culture of creativity and innovation among all segments of society, as well as its effective and positive role in supporting the innovation system at the state level, which is growing year after year at all levels, starting from Governmental and federal agencies, universities, academic institutions, private sector institutions, and individuals.
He pointed out that the UAE has paid great attention to creativity and innovation within its fixed strategy, and has devoted a whole month to innovation and innovators.
He praised the level of organization of the hackathon activities, and the advanced level he witnessed in the quality of innovations, which reflect the distinguished level of the participants.

The UAE Hackathon Arbitration Committee, chaired by Dr. Issa Al Bastaki, includes in its membership many arbitrators from various government agencies, national universities and private companies. It includes 15 sub-committees, including two committees in each emirate – a committee for arbitration for students from 11 to 18 years, and a committee for arbitration for university students and startup companies -, Committee No. 15 is a higher committee for arbitration of research projects, and it is a new axis that has been added to this year’s competition.

The 2023 edition of the UAE Hackathon is characterized by a number of developments that make it different this year. In this session, the winning ideas will be transferred to business incubators belonging to the participating national universities, so that these incubators will sponsor the owners of ideas and train them to turn them into practical projects. Activities to encourage applied research.
This year, the hackathon includes a “tracks” system to help all participating groups achieve the best results. These tracks include the track for school students between the ages of 11 and 18 who have not yet enrolled in university, and the track for university students between the ages of 18 and 25 years or slightly older. Do not yet have a long professional experience, and the Startups and Entrepreneurs track targeting experts from different fields with strong technical expertise that enables them to develop high quality and implementable solutions.
