SHARJAH, 14th December, 2020 (WAM) — His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, opened the exhibition ‘Civilizations of Oman: Origins and Development’ today, Wednesday morning, which is organized by the Sharjah Museums Authority in cooperation with the National Museum of the Sultanate of Oman at the Sharjah Museum of Antiquities, from December 14 to June 7 next year.
His Highness toured the exhibition, which aims to showcase a bouquet of archaeological finds that shed light on the history of Oman, through three axes that pass according to a chronological sequence of historical eras, starting with the Stone Age axis 125000- 4000 BC, and the Bronze Age axis 3100-1300 BC AD, and the Iron Age axis and the last centuries before Islam 1200 BC – 600 AD.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah listened to an explanation of the most important artifacts in the exhibition, including a cuneiform inscribed tablet dating from between 2000 and 2100 BC. On it was written a list of the basic materials needed to build a fleet of boats that sailed from (Ur); It is a Sumerian city in Mesopotamia (Iraq), in Magan (Oman), as well as a group of ancient copper and silver daggers, and a number of statues, pottery and seals including a seal with a similar alphabet inscription dating from 2200 BC approximately.
The exhibition includes a group of items such as ancient stone tools and flint tools dating back 125,000 years, a number of bronze artifacts and rare stone artifacts such as short daggers, arrowheads and bronze axes, and a rare necklace of gold dating from between 300 BC and 400 AD
The exhibition hosts a number of events and accompanying educational activities aimed at children and teenagers, such as the “Design Your Own Dagger” event, which is aimed at the age group 7 to 12, to time travel to Oman during the early Iron Age and the modern era, and to learn about inscriptions and dagger designs, as well as the activity “The art of paper folding”, which introduces children to the most important industries of bronze, copper and iron that existed at that time.
The exhibition also provides an opportunity for 13-17 year olds to travel by boat to the Magan civilization so they can make their own panels using plaster while learning the intricacies of dagger making in the “Khafiyat daggers” workshop. people aged 18 and over, the exhibition features a workshop “Rock or pottery painting, as well as a workshop of “dot art”, “alkahl” and “cosmetic tools”.
The “Civilizations of Oman: Origins and Development” exhibition at the Sharjah Archaeological Museum reflects the high level of cultural and museum cooperation between the two countries, and is the first integrated museum exhibition of the Sultanate of Oman to be held in the UAE .
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah received a number of books and souvenirs from the Sultanate of Oman delegation.
The inauguration was attended by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, His Excellency Salem bin Muhammad Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism of the Sultanate of Oman, His Excellency Dr. Sayyid Ahmed bin Hilal bin Saud Al Busaidi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman in the country, Khamis bin Salem Al Suwaidi, Counselor in the Office of His Highness the Ruler, and Ali Salem Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah International Airport Authority, Dr. Saeed Musabah Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Education Council of Sharjah, Muhammad Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of Protocol and Hospitality Department, and Manal Ataya, Director General of Sharjah Museums Authority.
