Sharjah, October 5 / WAM / The Sharjah Department of Social Services, in collaboration with the Awqaf Department of Sharjah, has launched the “Barakat Al Dar” project, which is an ongoing charity to support shelters for elderly and children’s homes in the Department of Social Services in Sharjah.
Dr Abdullah Al-Ketbi, director of the Maliha branch, said the initiative was launched on September 30 and lasts 3 years and aims to raise donations to build a charitable endowment consisting of a multi-storey building, whose proceeds go and spend on all goods, services, needs and supplies for the elderly and children without social assistance, to provide them with everything they need for a dignified life, underlining that this initiative is part of social responsibility and community integration projects.
Interestingly, “Barakat Al-Dar” has been launched since 2016 as a volunteer opportunity, organized during the holy month of Ramadan, such as organizing activities and events for the elderly, such as the daily collective iftar, which brings together the elderly in government and private institutions and members of society to participate in parents of elderly and children, who wish to break the fast with them, but with the Covid pandemic the initiative has been interrupted due to social distancing, and has transformed in a virtual initiative, and today it has taken a new shape by launching endowment quotas to support the role of welcoming the elderly and children.
