Sharjah, November 10 / WAM / Sheikh Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi, head of His Highness the Sovereign’s office, attended a ceremony on Thursday morning honoring the winners of the University City Cup 2022, which was held at the Theater of the ‘Academy of Police Sciences.
The ceremony began with the national anthem of the United Arab Emirates and the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, then Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Rahman Al Owais, president of the Academy’s Sports Committee, gave a speech in which he greeted and thanked Lo Sheikh Salem bin Abdul Rahman for his presence at the ceremony, and the participating universities and colleges for accepting the invitation to participate in the tournament, noting that the tournament had the best impact in achieving greater cooperation and coordination between the various institutions University of Sharjah Schools.
Al Owais pointed out that the organization of this tournament with the participation of all colleges and universities of the university city of Sharjah aims to increase the level of challenge and physical and mental fitness for college students and employees and obtain many benefits, including provide a positive environment that seeks to invest the energies and skills of students, and to use them optimally, underlining that the Academy of Police Sciences seeks, by organizing this tournament, to strengthen the bonds of cooperation between the academic authorities of the emirate and to carry out the national agenda of the United Arab Emirates, which has institutionalized the sports sector.
306 players participated in the tournament, which included a variety of sports competitions in football, volleyball, tug of war, running and padel tennis, and ran from October 17 to November 2, with 306 players representing Sharjah University, Al Qasimia University, and the American University of Sharjah, the Higher Colleges of Technology, Horizon University College and the Academy of Police Sciences, where the American University of Sharjah team won the General Excellence Cup.
Subsequently, Sheikh Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi honored the teams that won the top three places in all competitions, where the Sharjah University team won first place in football competitions, the American University in second place and the Academy of Police Sciences in third place, while in the volleyball competition, Sharjah University team won first place, Al Qasimia in second place, and American University of Sharjah won third place.
When it comes to tug-of-war competitions, the University of Al Qasimia ranked first, the American University in second and the Academy of Police Sciences in third.
In the running competition, the Academy won first place, Al Qasimia ranked second, and American University ranked third.As for the padel tennis competition, the American University team won first place, Sharjah University in second place and Al Qasimia University in third place.
At the end of the ceremony, Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman congratulated the winners of the competition, the coaches and administrators and all members of the organizing committee and took commemorative photos with the winning teams.
The coronation ceremony was attended by Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, Brigadier General Dr. Muhammad Khamis Al Othmani, Director General of the Academy, Dr. Awad Al Khalaf, Director of the University of Al Qasimia, a number of senior officers from the Sharjah Police General Command, representatives of universities and members of the participating teams.
