DUBAI, 11th December 2022 (WAM) — France’s Olympique Lyonnais defeated Liverpool, England 3-1 in their second match of the Dubai Super Cup 2022 which brought them together at Al Nasr Club’s Al Maktoum Stadium, and is was moderated by an Emirati international refereeing team led by Ahmed Issa Mohammed and his assistants, Sat. Obeid and Mohammed Ghalita Al-Shehhi.
Lyon made up for their 0-3 loss to Arsenal at the tournament opener last Thursday and ended their participation in this match.
The first half ended in a 1-1 draw between the sides, with Liverpool scoring in the first minute, precisely 39 seconds into the game, thanks to their young Portuguese player Fabio Carvalho, from a pass from ‘Egyptian Mohamed Salah, and Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette equalized for Lyon in the 40th minute, due to a mistake by the Liverpool defence.
The first half saw the referee award a penalty to Liverpool in the 14th minute. Mohamed Salah shot, but Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopez successfully saved.
In the second half, the coaches of the two teams, Juergen Klopp of Liverpool and Laurent Blanc of Lyon, involved a large number of substitutes and youth players.
French substitute Bradley Barkola managed to score Lyon’s second goal (65), and his colleague Alexandre Lacazette added Lyon’s third goal and second (83).
And in the penalty shootout after the end of the match, according to the tournament rules, Lyon repeated their superiority and won 4-3, getting one more point, bringing their score to 4 points, while Liverpool remained without points and played one game remaining next Friday against Milan.
