ABU DHABI, 13th December, 2020 (WAM) — The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Health Services Corporation ‘SEHA’ and New York University Abu Dhabi have organized a comprehensive program to build skills to integrate mental health in the field of primary care, with the participation of a wide range of health professionals and experts.
The program included five interactive one-to-one workshops to help equip primary care physicians, nurses, and care coordinators with practical behavioral medicine tools and techniques. Upon successful completion of the program and at the final assessment stage, participants received a certificate and related continuing medical education credits.
His Excellency Hind Al Zaabi, Executive Director of the Health Facilities Sector at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, said, “In line with the department’s continued efforts to preserve the mental and physical health of community members in Abu Dhabi, we are We are delighted to support similar initiatives that will raise the skill level of healthcare workforce in Abu Dhabi.
For his part, course director, licensed clinical psychologist and assistant director of counseling at NYU’s Abu Dhabi Health Center, Dr. Vedrana Mladinal, said, “In line with the Department of Health’s strategic plan to meet the needs of mental health care in “In the emirate, the program contributes to the integration of mental health care services in busy primary care centres. The comprehensive healthcare delivery model at NYU Abu Dhabi Health Center follows this principle by integrating the ‘specialized mental health care in primary student care’.
The program includes frontal sessions with the reading of the required material, participation in discussions of real cases and the final written exam. Among the topics of the program are “Pandemic Mental Illness and the Need for an Integrated Model of Care”, “Therapy Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Depression,” “Assessing Suicide and Self-Harm Risks and Planning for Safety.” Self-care and burnout prevention for the GP, among others.
It also includes supervision and follow-up after completing the program.

Each session of the Mental Health Skills Improvement Program 2022, presented by well-known names in the industry, features teaching units focused on highly qualified behavioral medicine topics, as well as interactive and role-play learning activities. The program will help primary care physicians obtain the resources they need to diagnose psychological health conditions early before it causes further complications for the patient.
