Emirates news agency – Etihad Airways launches first flight to Guangzhou, China

ABU DHABI, October 11 / WAM / Etihad Airways, the flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates, has launched its first regular flight to Guangzhou in the People’s Republic of China.

The inaugural flight EY868 departed last night from Abu Dhabi International Airport following the ribbon cutting ceremony, which was attended by representatives of the United Arab Emirates and the Chinese governments, Abu Dhabi Airports Company, Miral Asset Management and Etihad Aviation Group.

The flight landed this morning at Guangzhou Pagyun International Airport at 10:25 am local time in China, making it the first international airline to operate passenger services to China’s three most important destinations since the start of the Corona pandemic, which includes Beijing, Shanghai and Canton.

Tony Douglas, Group Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Aviation Group, expressed his happiness at the launch of this new service, as Guangzhou is Etihad’s new destination in China since Shanghai was added to the airline’s network in 2012. It will have a role in continuing to build a strong air bridge to strengthen commercial and cultural ties between the two countries.

He added: “We are grateful for the great support we have received from the UAE and China governments, business partners and the Etihad team, as the new service for Guangzhou will contribute to the consolidation of the Union’s presence in China and to the global aviation sector, in addition to meeting the huge demand for travel between the UAE and China and strengthening relations, it will also strengthen the company’s commitment to serving the Chinese market. “

With the addition of scheduled flight EY868 between Abu Dhabi and Guangzhou, Etihad Airways’ passenger services destinations increase to 67 destinations in 45 countries.

And that destination, which will be an average of two flights per week, will be served by a Boeing 777 arranged according to the two-class system.
