Thessaloniki – Greece, September 14 / WAM / His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy, held bilateral meetings with some ministers and government officials of the Republic of Greece, at the State Pavilion at the 86th Thessaloniki International Fair , with the aim of strengthening cooperation and joint bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and shedding light on the most important economic sectors that attract investment to the UAE, including non-oil industries, whose exports have recently increased without previous.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsou Takis had inaugurated and inspected the UAE Pavilion at the Thessaloniki Exposition in the presence of His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al-Marri, before the Greek Prime Minister met His Excellency Al-Marri, where they discussed the means of joint cooperation and the development of trade and investment relations between the two countries and participated in the seminar on US-Emirati investments.
During the first day of the exhibition, His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al-Marri met His Excellency Adonis Georgiadis, Minister of Development and Investment of Greece, and His Deputy for Economic Diplomacy and Trade Development, Costas Fragogiannis, and the two Parties discussed ways to expand areas of joint economic cooperation, improve trade and investment flows between the two countries and increase trade, the non-oil interface between them, as well as explore more promising opportunities in the markets of the two countries.
His Excellency bin Touq Al-Marri also met His Excellency Vassilis Kikilias, Greek Minister of Tourism, and discussed the mechanisms to stimulate the circulation of tourism, reciprocal flights and the enhancement of technological tools in tourism services provided to tourists, thus contributing to the sustainable prosperity of this vital sector and improving its contribution to supporting the total domestic product for the two countries.
In addition, His Excellency Al-Marri met His Excellency Constantinos Karamanlis, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of Greece, and the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation frameworks in the infrastructure and transport sector, as well as the exchange of experiences and fruitful experiences between the two countries, in order to enable the best practices followed in that sector and improve the use of digital solutions and advanced technologies in their services.
His Excellency met His Excellency Konstantinos Tasoulas, President of the Greek Parliament, and the two sides discussed the frameworks to strengthen joint cooperation between the two countries in all fields, especially economic and trade, and bring them to more solid levels, in a way that supports the development agenda of both countries.
The UAE Pavilion at the 86th Thessaloniki International Fair will showcase the country’s various prominent economic sectors, highlighting the development potential of these sectors and the promising investment opportunities they offer to local, regional and international investors, especially the tourism, manufacturing, communications, information technology and artificial intelligence, energy, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, research and development.
It also highlights the new economic model of the country and the great success achieved by the strategy of diversification of the national economy and development of the non-oil economic sectors of the country and the leadership position of the UAE on the global trade map, which is reflected clearly in the growth path of the country’s non-oil national exports, which recorded an unprecedented record During the first half of the current year 2022, it reached for the first time in its history about 180 billion dirhams.
Interestingly, the UAE aims to increase the contribution of the industrial sector in supporting the gross domestic product, which amounts to 133 billion dirhams, to reach 300 billion dirhams by 2031. The government will pay around 1.4 billion dollars in generic drugs by 2030, which supports the development of the pharmaceutical sector in the UAE and increases its growth by 7.3%.
Regarding the research and development sector, the industrial sector spending on research and development is expected to reach approximately 57 billion dirhams by 2031. The UAE has taken second place in the adoption of communications and information technologies according to the Global Competitiveness Index in 2020, it ranks first in the food and beverage sector in the Middle East and North Africa region, which accounts for 18% of the total food and beverage trade in the region.
