DUBAI, 9th January, 2020 (WAM) — Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and Sibel Pfaff, the new Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Dubai, have discussed at the head of a consulate delegation which included Oliver Ohms, CEO of the Joint German-Emirati Industry Council Trade and Commerce Strengthen the cooperation between the authority and German companies, exchanging the best expertise and experience in the energy sectors, of water and sustainability and developing them towards wider horizons.
The meeting, which was held at the main building of DEWA, was attended by Engineer Walid bin Salman, Executive Vice President for Business Development and Excellence Sector, and Engineer Marwan bin Haider, Executive Vice President for the innovation and future sector at DEWA.
During the meeting, Al Tayer reviewed the authority’s ambitious pioneering and innovative development initiatives and projects implemented to realize the vision of wise leadership to enhance sustainability and transition to a sustainable green economy by diversifying sources of production of energy and increasing the share of renewable energy and clean energy within Dubai’s energy mix, in order to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050. Dubai’s carbon neutrality in 2050 to provide the 100% of energy generation capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.
He explained that the clean energy generation capacity in Dubai constitutes about 14% of the total electricity generation capacity in Dubai, as the current generation capacity of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex has reached 2027 megawatts using the solar photovoltaic and concentrated solar power technologies and production capacity will reach The complex, which was implemented by the authority, is the largest solar power complex in one place in the world, according to the independent power generation system, a 5,000 megawatts by 2030.
He hinted at the authority’s efforts to employ disruptive technologies of the fourth industrial revolution as well as ‘green charging’ stations for electric vehicles, as the authority completed the installation of around 350 stations across Dubai to support mobility green in the emirate and the country.
His Excellency Al Tayer underlined the importance of cooperation between the Authority and German companies, exchanging the best skills and experiences in the energy, water and sustainability sectors, working to develop them towards wider horizons and benefiting from the experiences of both parties, indicating that the Authority has strategic partnerships with a number of German companies in the fields of energy, renewable energy, research and development It has a strategic partnership with the international company Siemens that spans over 30 years in a wide range of industries, especially in the development of technical solutions for power generation.
He pointed out that the authority has implemented the “green hydrogen” project, in cooperation with “Expo 2020 Dubai” and “Siemens Energy”, and the project is the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa to produce green hydrogen using the ‘solar energy energy.
For his part, the German Consul General praised the Authority’s efforts and its distinguished role in promoting sustainable development in the Emirate of Dubai and thanked Al Tayer for providing the two sides with the opportunity to discuss joint cooperation opportunities and strengthen bilateral relations.
