Emirates News Agency – Chinese Ambassador: 54,000 students are studying Chinese in 158 public schools across UAE

ABU DHABI, 13th November, 2018 (WAM) — Zhang Yiming, Ambassador of China to the UAE, expressed his happiness with the success of the first round of the Student Drawing Competition and the Teacher Education Best Practice Competition for the Chinese language teaching project in 200 Emirati schools. He expressed his thanks and appreciation to the teachers and students who won the award and great support. And the hard work of the Ministry of Education, the Emirates Foundation for School Education, Hamdan Bin Zayed School and the expert team to teach the Chinese language.

Zhang Yiming said in his statements that today’s event fully demonstrates the fruitful results of the “Chinese Language Teaching in Two Hundred Schools in Emirates” program. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, State President, “may God protect him” and His Excellency Chinese President Xi Jinping to strengthen joint cooperation between the two friendly countries in all areas, referring in this regard to the initiative of the Hamdan bin Zayed School to include Chinese language in its curriculum in 2006.

He noted that this program includes 54,000 students in 158 public schools teaching the Chinese language and aims to cover 200 schools.

The Chinese ambassador stressed that the drawing competition entitled “Chinese-Emirati friendship in my eyes” attracted more than three thousand students, and all the drawings, whether they bear images of pandas, camels, Chinese dragons, the Great Wall of China , Tiananmen Square, Burj Khalifa, and even the two countries’ astronauts, all vividly express their passion for visiting China and embody their appreciation for the friendship between the two countries.
