The performance of Dubai Customs during the year 2022 kept pace with the recovery witnessed by the national economy in all its sectors, as a result of government policies and qualitative strategic initiatives, which contributed to the consolidation of the country’s position in the global economic system.

His Excellency Ahmed Mahboob Musabih stated, in statements to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that Dubai Customs enhanced its achievements in 2022 with a distinguished record of performance at the level of customs transactions, seizures, and new services. The return on their trade, which stimulates attracting new investments in the commercial sector and other sectors related to it.

His Excellency stressed that Dubai Customs is intensifying its work and drawing up its plans to implement the directives and vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, “may God protect him”, by increasing the value of Dubai’s foreign trade and facilitating business for merchants and investors in a way that supports Dubai’s center in Indicators of global competitiveness, pointing out that the general budget cycle of the Dubai government for the fiscal years 2023-2025, with total expenditures of 205 billion dirhams, will stimulate economic business sectors and attract more investments.

He noted that the department continues to work on implementing its strategic plan 2021-2026, which defines five main principles that Dubai Customs seeks to achieve in order to enhance its role as an innovative and digital department, which enables Dubai Customs to promote sustainable economic development, as Dubai Customs has established its role through the achievements made in 2022. It is vital in protecting society, supporting economic development, and improving its performance to provide smart services and procedures that support increased trade exchanges.

Musabih stressed that the UAE is gaining double capabilities in terms of the ability to reach major markets in the world through comprehensive economic partnership agreements with its most prominent trade partners, and the economic partnership agreements with India, Israel and Indonesia are a pioneering model for expanding economic partnerships with various countries during the next stage. Dubai Customs works to support these partnerships by facilitating the movement of trade with partners by providing the best commercial and customs services.

The Director General of Dubai Customs added that the total number of customs transactions completed by Dubai Customs reached 25.7 million in 2022, and Dubai Customs is working to provide smart and pioneering services to reduce customs procedures and facilitate customers, and the percentage of customers’ happiness with the department’s smart services reached 98%.

And His Excellency added that Dubai Customs plays a major role in combating the smuggling of prohibited and restricted materials, as the total number of control reports and customs cases was 2147 seizures and seizure reports during 2022, which were completed to protect society and the economy.

He stressed the keenness to enhance smart services, including the development of the “Smart Early Disclosure” program, and granting automatic electronic approval without any human intervention to about 98% of customs transactions related to clearance and release of shipments and goods, which saves 1.4 million working hours, amounting to 68 million dirhams, for companies annually. .

Customer happiness

With regard to the happiness of customers, he indicated that the percentage of customers’ happiness reached 91.8% in the customer happiness index, after Dubai Customs succeeded in developing a mechanism to follow up all the results of studies of customer happiness and the internal and external secret shopper, restructuring customer service centers, holding courses and training programs for front-line employees, in addition to organizing a party Monthly to honor distinguished clients.

Dubai Customs has also launched many innovative initiatives aimed at facilitating customs procedures, most notably the innovative smart bag initiative that keeps pace with the rapid development of the Emirate of Dubai, the initiative to automate post-checking and the development of smart inspection methods, and the customs dolphins, a smart water robot that looks like a dolphin, to monitor marine vessels.

He stated that Dubai Customs strengthened its efforts to combat counterfeit goods and protect intellectual property rights, as the number of intellectual property dispute cases dealt with by the department in 2022 amounted to about 388 cases involving 14.5 million pieces of counterfeit goods with a total value of 109.5 million dirhams, and the department continued to organize recycling operations. For counterfeit goods, where 93 recycling operations were organized, including 173,000 pieces of counterfeit goods, 351 trademarks and 160 commercial agencies were registered, and 4 knowledge assets were registered.

Paperless circle.

He added that Dubai Customs obtained the “100% paperless” stamp from the Dubai Digital Authority, within the framework of implementing the “Dubai Paperless Transactions Strategy”, as this achievement indicates the quality of Dubai Customs’ smart services provided through digital channels and supported by a proactive, efficient and effective digital environment. .

He noted the department’s success in reaching nearly 96,000 beneficiaries through the implementation of 180 community and voluntary initiatives until the end of 2022, in addition to employee happiness initiatives. The number of new innovations in the year 2022 reached about 171 innovations, and the rate of processing new ideas within 15 working days reached 93%.

With regard to international honors and awards during 2022, His Excellency revealed that the Customs Intelligence Department has achieved many achievements at the regional and international levels, as it has received wide praise from the Australian, German and French consulates, the regional office in the Middle East “Relo”, and the Container Security Initiative office.

The department also won many awards and reached the top of the Platinum Rating Index of the British Ideas Organization for the 13th year in a row for the year 2022. The department also won two advanced awards from the current year’s awards for its new innovation (the smart deterrent plane for safe customs inspection), which is the evaluators’ award for the best innovation. And the second place award for Idea of ​​the Year in the innovation category, and winning the Emirates Innovates 2022 Award in the Best Radical Innovation category for the innovation of “Customs Dolphins”.

The department also won the “Brilliance” International Award 2022 for the best marketing and public relations team, which is one of the important international awards for honoring distinguished institutions. The award is given to the best marketing and public relations team.
