MANILA, December 28, WAM/ The National Disasters Agency of the Philippines said on Wednesday that 25 people were killed as floods and landslides caused by torrential rains swept across the country.
The agency said more than 390,000 people in 29 provinces were affected by the bad weather, including 81,443 residents who were forced to stay in evacuation centres.
He added that emergency crews are still searching for 26 people, most of them fishermen whose fates are unknown, noting that 13 of the dead were from Misamis Occidental province in the south, where heavy rains have caused flooding and landslides.
For his part, Raymondo Ferrer, executive director of the disaster agency, said search, rescue and rescue operations had been stepped up as weather conditions improved.
