Fujairah, November 22nd / WAM / The work of the World Conference “Cities Environment” Fujairah 2022 began today, in the presence of 900 participants from 25 countries at the event organized by the Municipality of Fujairah, the Fujairah Natural Resources Foundation and the Environment Center for Arab Cities in partnership with Dubai Municipality and Arab Cities Organization under the slogan “Sustainable and Flexible Smart City Applications”.
His Excellency Eng. Mohamed Saif Al-Afkham, Director General of Fujairah Municipality and Chairman of the Senior Organizing Committee of the Conference, said the event is seeing an unprecedented attendance of more than 900 attendees, including experts and smart city pioneers and sustainable sector, elite leaders in the country, municipal labor officials and specialists from over 25 countries around the world to highlight sustainable smart city strategies and policies and the most important international practices of interest with decision makers and future city forecasters in order to come up with innovative and developmental ideas for the problems facing smart city systems.
His Excellency added that sustainability, smart cities and attention to the environment and its natural resources are top priorities of the wise leadership and its high directives, and that we, within the framework of the directives of His Highness the Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, is working with our public and private sector partners, all stakeholders and the local community to establish advanced working mechanisms Promote access to sustainable smart cities, prosperous and secure for all.
For his part, His Excellency Ing. Ali Qasim, Director General of Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation, Vice Chairman of the Senior Organizing Committee of the Conference, expressed his pride in hosting this high-level event in the Emirate of Fujairah, which reflects the the emirate’s distinguished position in the global affairs sector to review global policies and legislation for smart cities and AI systems, as well as focus on the role of youth and innovation in addressing sustainability challenges and other important issues on the conference agenda.
For his part, Abdullah Al Hantobi, Deputy Director General of Fujairah Municipality, welcomed the guests and attendees, noting that the conference enjoys the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, who is always keen to provide all forms of guidance and support to enhance Fujairah’s position as a leading destination at all levels and an ideal incubator for vital sectors including the sustainable and flexible smart city sector.
The first day of the conference included three discussion sessions on the future of smart cities, where working papers on strategic planning and the potential of sustainable smart cities were presented, and presentations were shared on innovative ideas in data management, Intelligence and the Internet of Things for Smart and Sustainable Cities and Communities, as well as a discussion on the role of women in protecting biodiversity and the Blue Economy to enhance sustainability and economic growth in the Emirate of Fujairah and green buildings for a green future
