“Emily in Paris”, Season 4, Part 2: Chef Gabriel is now every woman’s nightmare
Of course, nothing happens in “Emily in Paris” without a bit of drama – that’s the whole point of the series about marketing expert Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) in the French capital. However, one character has turned 180 degrees over the course of the show and is now not only extremely annoying, but also the epitome of a toxic boyfriend: Gabriel. Why is the once charming chef now such a dangerous mix of ghosting mastermind, insulted liver sausage and wimp? Our author tries to explain how it could have come to this.
“Emily in Paris”, Season 4, Part 2: What it’s about – Episode by Episode
Be careful, there are massive and many spoilers for “Emily in Paris”, season 4, episodes 6 to 10.
The second part of the fourth season, “Emily in Paris,” continues where the previous episodes left off: Between the infomercials (Air France, Starbucks, etc.) a real story sneaks in – that of Emily’s long overdue and this time real new beginning. But from the beginning, episode by episode.
“Emily in Paris”, Season 4, Episode 6
In “Really Merry Christmas” (im Original: “Last Christmas”), the Christmas episode, Emily’s flight home to Chicago is cancelled and sooner or later she ends up in the winter home of Camille’s (Camille Razat) stiff and fussy family in Megève in the French Alps. Chef Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) also celebrates Christmas with Camille and co. – completely normally, with his ex-girlfriend, who still hasn’t told him that she isn’t pregnant by him, and her parents – just like they used to, when he and Camille were still a real couple. But everyone – Camille, her mother and her brother – are anything but hospitable to Emily; it culminates (pun intended) on a mountain where Gabriel would rather chase his ex-girlfriend Camille than help his inexperienced girlfriend Emily ski downhill (the Italian Marcello takes care of that). WTF, really.
At the valley station, Emily gives up everything: her skis, her relationship, her friendship with Camille. She leaves and meets her ex-boyfriend Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) back in Paris, who is going to Christmas mass with his new girlfriend and her parents (okay, he didn’t miss a beat either).
We note:
- Christmas: has run.
- Emily: cries.
- Gabriel: is perhaps the worst boyfriend in TV history after Mr. Big and/or Aidan Shaw from “And Just Like That”, because he either leaves his girlfriend or leaves her.
Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) celebrates Christmas in France.

“Emily in Paris”, Season 4, Episode 7
In “I do not understand you” (im Original: “Lost in Translation”) Emily tries to save her relationship with Gabriel, but he accuses her of always doing everything her way and in her language. The cook does this, classy as he is, in French – a language Emily doesn’t speak. However, the newcomer to the Netflix series, Genevieve (Thalia Besson), understands French, deliberately mistranslates and puts on a brave face. Of course she throws herself at Gabriel, because he is the only man in Paris that an American woman can like. And him? He always looks sad and is still insulted at Emily. Why? Because he left her standing at the summit? – Unclear.
