In the Grand Guild, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra rehearses the Sixth Symphony of the Finnish classic Jean Sibelius. It will be performed in the live concert “Symphonic Hits with Goran Gora. Sibelius’ Sixth and Garden’s” Melancholic Waltz “”. In the history of Latvian music, Sibelius is often mentioned alongside Dārziņš’s name, analyzing both similarities and differences in their work.
The conductor of the concert, Tavi Oramo, explains: “They were very European composers. Like Russian authors. For example, Tchaikovsky. The works of both composers embody the era.
In addition to “Melancholic Waltz” and the live broadcast of Sibelius ‘Sixth Symphony, Sibelius’ poem “Swan Swan” will be performed tomorrow. Exactly this copy of the composition was blamed on Dārziņš, as a result of which he burned his symphonic work “The Lonely Pine”.
Finnish conductor Tavi Oramo joins the conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra while performing the compositions of these two authors. This is the first experience of working with our orchestra. In Finland, on the other hand, he has conducted leading national academic music groups and is also known as a tenor and composer and performer of electronic music.
“Historically, many conductors are also composers and musicians. It’s important for me to keep both of these perspectives alive. Conducting is a wonderful core activity in my life, but it’s great to play other roles,” says Oramo.
The musical part of the program will be accompanied by a story by musician Goran Gora about the work of Dārziņš and Sibelius.
The live broadcast of the concert will be available free of charge on Thursday, November 11, from 19:00 to 20:00 LNSO website a YouTube account.
