Emilio Pinetti, historic pharmacist from Castione della Presolana, passes away at 88 – Remembering a Pillar of the Community

Emilio Pinetti, 88 years old, a historic pharmacist from Castione della Presolana, has passed away, overcome by illness. Originally from Ponte Nossa, where at a young age he had also been mayor (in the early sixties of the last century), he then moved to the foot of Presolana, where he managed the town pharmacy. Born in January 1936, he passed away on Wednesday after having been battling health problems for some time, in his home in the Lantana area. «Born in Ponte Nossa, he came from a family of pharmacists – recalls his son Marco – and he too had followed this path, also graduating very early in Pharmacy. In his early twenties, he decided to throw himself into the world of politics and at first In the sixties he became mayor of his town. The administrative chapter closed, he decided to leave for Africa, towards the Congo (in the part now considered a former Belgian colony), where he remained for about five years for work reasons as a medicine distributor. He had many memories of that period, and it often happened that he told them.”

Upon returning to Italy, at the beginning Seventies, took over the pharmacy in Castione della Presolana and also stopped to live in the village, where he settled with his family. «He loved his job very much, his relationship with his customers, but above all he was fascinated by the chemical aspect of his profession – he continues –, such as the composition of medicines, which he sometimes prepared himself several years ago: he remained one of the few to do it in the area. He worked in his pharmacy until about twenty years ago. For a few years he had been having health problems which have worsened in recent times, also due to his age.” In Castione della Presolana he was well known and appreciated by the population, and everyone remembers him with the white coat behind the pharmacy counter.

Even the mayor, Angelo Improveti, had the opportunity to personally observe the humanity and professionalism of the pharmacist. «I have always had a profound respect for Dr. Pinetti – he underlines –, I particularly appreciated his kindness, and I had the opportunity to experience his great availability and courtesy during the years of my father’s illness. It wasn’t easy at that time to get the medicine for my father, but Dr. Emilio Pinetti’s commitment and encouragement always helped me. He was a person open to politics and the needs of the community. He also played an important administrative role as mayor of Ponte Nossa and discreetly helped numerous families and people. We are close to his loved ones.”

He leaves behind his wife Maria Vezzoli and his son Marco. Yesterday evening (Thursday 29 February) a prayer vigil was held at 8pm in his home in Via Rododendro, 8, where his body is located. The funeral will be celebrated this afternoon (1 March), at 4pm, in the parish church of the hamlet of Dorga, starting from the house.
