In a few plus degrees, soft snow and slush, this year’s edition of the Vasaloppet would be decided.

For the ladies, there was no talk of the matter. The reigning Vasalop champion Emilie Fleten was of course the strongest in the track and she led from the first pole to the finish in Mora.

At the end of the race, there was no other female rider to catch up with, but during the race Fleten took important positions in the overall.

– How she stands compared to the ladies is one thing, but how she stands against the world’s best men is another. What she does is unique, says Anders Blomqvist in SVT.

When Fleten passed Hökberg, the Norwegian got a bit of a stomach problem that could possibly lead to the crash she was headed for.

The winner vomited in the track

Suddenly she threw up in the track.

– Oh then!, exclaimed the expert Anders Blomquist in the SVT broadcast.

He continued:

– It happened to her last year too. This is something that could threaten her if it’s something serious. She has a little trouble maintaining nutrition when her body is tired.

But Fleten quickly shook it off.

The 31-year-old Norwegian took home the victory in superior style. It was her sixth win in nine different Ski Classics races this season.

– She does it absolutely fantastic. She has performed at a very good level throughout the season. Extremely impressive, says Blomquist.
