This morning it became clear that Emilie Enger Mehl (Sp) is part of Jonas Gahr Støre’s new government. She takes over the job from Monica Mæland (H).
The 28-year-old will be the youngest Minister of Justice ever.
The young politician gets the ongoing case of the killings in Kongsberg in his lap already the first working day.
But Jonas Gahr Støre has good faith in his new Minister of Justice.
– Those who have seen her in the Storting have seen what lives in this young politician, says Støre about his young colleague.

According to the Prime Minister, he and Mehl will start working on the murder case at Kongsberg but once.
– She goes to a big job at a young age, but we are confident that we have a visionary and energetic politician who takes on this field.

Will strengthen the rule of law
Støre has big plans when it comes to the field of justice. It does not just mean working with acute crises.
– Emilie will also look at the important functions that are about the state’s integrity and security, says Støre.
He refers to challenges in the face of the internet and artificial intelligence.
– It is the area that needs us to have a watchful eye on how we safeguard people’s rights and legal security. It will be an important job for her.

Started early
The lawyer from Finnskogen, entered the Storting as a 24-year-old. After four years in the Foreign Affairs and Justice Committee, Hedmarkingen is ready to take over as Minister.
The young politician has previously told NRK that she feels it is coincidental that she entered the parliament at all.
– There are several in the Hedmark Center Party who could have been in the Storting. We have a lot of good people, so the fact that it was just me is a bit coincidental.

Before Mehl, Hanne Harlem (Labor Party) was the youngest Minister of Justice. She was 35 years old when she started in the year 2000.
