Emile Roemer installed as new governor of Limburg | Inland

Remkes (VVD) temporarily took office this spring during a governance crisis that arose when the entire Board of the Provincial Executive, including then governor Theo Bovens (CDA) resigned. Under Remkes’ leadership, a new council was established, which, together with Roemer, will form the day-to-day management of the province from Wednesday.

“Limburg says goodbye to an administrative centipede,” said Vice-President Geert Frische of the Limburg States Remkes. He praised Remkes for his sincere involvement with the victims of the flooding in Valkenburg, among others, and as governor of the short consultations. “And the balcony scenes to reflect while enjoying a self-made cigarette with a view of the Maas.”

Remkes became involved in the formation in The Hague during his governorship, but he told his audience that he was not the first. In August 1981, then governor Sjeng Kremers was involved in the formation of the Van Agt 2 cabinet. “That was unsuccessful and fell before the government statement,” Remkes said on Wednesday.

‘Able to conquer the hearts of Limburgers’

Frische praised the new governor Roemer as someone who is able to conquer the hearts of Limburgers. Roemer himself praised Limburg as the “nice girl next door” that the province has always been for the man from Boxmeer. “I am happy, elated and grateful that my girl next door and I are getting married today,” he said.

Roemer can immediately wet his chest, because on Wednesday there was a letter with him on the mat from the group leaders of the coalition in the Venray city council. They clashed with Remkes about the resignation of mayor Luc Winants (CDA) in the North Limburg municipality last week. Remkes wrote an angry letter to the party leaders about this at the last minute, and that letter did not go down well with them. They want to discuss this with Roemer ‘in the very short term’.
