Emil Forsberg Signs Three-Year Contract with New York Red Bulls

Swedish international striker Emil Forsberg is leaving Leipzig and joining Dante Vanzeir at the New York Red Bulls, the American Major League Soccer franchise announced on Saturday.

Emil Forsberg, 32, signed a three-year contract until 2026, with an option for one more season. He spent the last nine years of his career in Leipzig from Malmö, playing 324 games (71 goals), reports the New York club press release.

His contract at Leipzig would run until June 2025. This attacking midfielder left the German club by scoring a goal, on a serve from Lois Openda, on Saturday in the German championship during Leipzig’s 3-1 victory against Hoffenheim.

Emil Forsberg, an 83-time international (20 goals), has only started four times this season in the Bundesliga, but was part of the starting eleven six times in the Champions League group stage.
