The body of Emil Boev, wanted for 62 days, surfaced on Thursday evening in Pernik. The young man had been wanted since January 27, when he disappeared while at the Surva festival in the mining town.
He left his phone, which had no battery, in the car and went outside. It was about 3 o’clock in the morning. He was last photographed by a camera on the outskirts of Pernik. Since then, traces of him were lost. From the records, as well as witness statements, it became clear that Boev had been drinking. What exactly happened to him is unclear, as there are no direct eyewitnesses.
However, there are no signs of violence on the body, and the man was wearing the same clothes with which he disappeared. The corpse was seen by a worker floating on the water of the mine’s smolt storage near the “Bela Voda” district. The police were immediately called to inspect and retrieve the body.
Around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, it was already known that the body was most likely Boev’s. It was confirmed by both a specific tattoo on his arm and the identity card that was in it.
The area where the body was found has been repeatedly searched with drones. Nothing suspicious was observed. Deputy The chief of the police in the city, Yordan Nikolov, also explained his version of why Boev’s body was discovered only now.
“When drowning, the corpse first sinks, and after a certain period it floats up. It also depends on the weather conditions. In a period between 40 and 60 days, the body floated to the surface”, said Nikolov. And he added that during most of the time the lake was frozen. The police specified that until now they had not checked it because the conditions were “very difficult for ordinary divers”.
The results of the autopsy determined that there were no signs of violence.
Expertises have also been appointed to definitely confirm the boy’s identity. It will also be investigated whether he drank and took drugs before his death.
So far, the leading version is that hours after the disappearance, Emil slipped and fell into the lake, and then drowned. This should be confirmed by expertise. Just in case, it will be checked whether the man was poisoned and thrown into the water. The place where he most likely slipped is believed to be close to where the body was found.
Boev’s relatives have confirmed that the body is his. According to Emil’s brother – Martin, they were not informed about the discovery of the body. Until Friday morning, no one had looked for them, they found out from the media, he told “24 Chasa”.
Martin, his parents and relatives of Emil organized a large-scale search in the city, in which volunteers also joined. A reward of BGN 100,000 was also announced.
According to one of the latest reports, even a man who looked like Boev was seen in Sofia in recent days, Emil’s mother Ivanka Stoyanova said. However, she explained that the complainant was not at all sure that the man she saw was Emil.
