Chicago –
Emergency slide fell from an airline’s Boeing 767 aircraft United Airlines currently airing in Chicago, United States of America (US), earlier this week. The emergency slide or slide was found in the backyard of a resident’s house located near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
As reported CNNTuesday (18/7/2023), Patrick Devitt lives in the neighborhood where the emergency slide was found, which is only a few kilometers from the tarmac of O’Hare International Airport.
he told local media WLS affiliate CNN that his father-in-law and son were inside the house when they heard a loud bang from their backyard, on Monday (17/7) afternoon at around 12.15 local time.
Devitt’s father-in-law then rushed out of the house and saw an emergency slide in the backyard, before asking Devitt’s son to call 911.
When the find was made, Devitt was on his way home from work. Arriving home, Devitt dragged the emergency slide from the backyard to the front of the house. He said the large equipment had damaged the roof of the house and the windows in the kitchen.
“When unfolded it was bigger than a small car. It was a very, very large piece of equipment that fell over,” Devitt said.
Maintenance workers at O’Hare International Airport, according to the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA), discovered that one of the planes that had landed had lost its emergency slide.
“We immediately contacted the FAA and are working with our team to better understand the situation surrounding this matter,” United Airlines said in a statement regarding the incident.
