An oil tanker is on fire in the Baltic Sea off the coast of northeastern Germany, the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service announced today, and a major rescue operation is currently underway, DPA reported. , reported by BTA.
The seven members of the crew of the 73-meter tanker “Annika” were rescued, and no damage to the environment has been done so far, said the ministry of the environment in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The ship was reported to be carrying 640 tonnes of heavy fuel oil when a fire broke out on board early today.
It is currently anchored in the Gulf of Mecklenburg between Kühlungsborn and Warnemünde and is attached to a tugboat, the rescue services said.
Helicopters have flown to the tanker to transport fire crews, and three ships have reportedly begun fighting the fire.
Black smoke from the burning ship could reportedly be seen as far as the coast.
The German High Command for Maritime Emergencies has taken over the leadership of the rescue operation. Additional information, such as the cause of the fire, is still unknown.
