Emergency shelter for asylum seekers closed on Saturday as a precaution because of a demonstration

A spokeswoman for the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) confirms this reporting by NRC. “In consultation with Defense and the police, security measures have been taken because of the announced demonstrations of the two groups,” said the spokeswoman.

Collision NCE and AFA

The COA takes into account, among other things, clashes between supporters of NVU and AFA. That is why the gates of the emergency shelter remain closed during the demonstrations.

This means that residents, staff and others cannot leave the site and that people from outside are temporarily unable to enter the accommodation.

The NCE reported on social media that it will be argued under the motto ‘lucky seekers not welcome borders closed!’. AFA announced via Twitter that it would come to Harskamp to ‘warn against the neo-Nazis of the NCE’.

800 people from Afghanistan

The army camp Harskamp opened at the end of August for up to eight hundred evacuees from Afghanistan. The refugees would stay there until the beginning of October at most, since the Defense organization needs the training area itself. But at the beginning of October it turned out that more refugees than expected had come to the Netherlands and that the camp had to remain open until 1 November. This week it has been extended to December 1.

In August, a protest against the reception of refugees got out of hand. The police intervened.
