With gusts of up to 110 km/h in places due to Hurricane Elsa’s passing near the Caribbean arch, rescue services had a lot to do from Friday morning.
From 7:37 a.m. they were called to Saint-Claude for a cable that fell to the ground on rue Joseph Pitat, not far from the gendarmerie. The EDF had to intervene in that place.
At approximately 11:40 am, bamboo in the soil of the Corossol River on the route de la Traversée required a new emergency response.
In the afternoon, around 2pm, a tree fell in Morne-à-L’Eau, blocking part of the highway at Capitonnage Lacrosse. The tree had to be pruned and the Routes de Guadeloupe service had to clear the way.
Also around 2pm an electric pole fell on Emile Chaulet Street in Bouillant, blocking traffic on a city street. The EDF service, alerted by the police, intervened.
An hour later, at 3pm, the department road was blocked by a fallen tree in Marigot in Vieux-Habitants. Interventions are also needed to cut down trees to clear road surfaces.
According to Météo France, hurricane Elsa will produce strong gusts of up to 110 km/h in relief tonight. Therefore, the aid is likely to be mobilized until the end of the phenomenal journey in the West Indies arc.
