Emergency room, only the “token operators” remain in the Salerno area

In healthcare with a staffing crisis, all that remains are the “token operators” – a term not appreciated by those working in the sector – to manage essential areas for assistance, such as the emergency room. The confirmation of the increasingly central role of “self-employed” doctors, employed in collaborative relationships to cover shifts within the departments for a maximum of 36 hours per week and the payment of 80 euros every sixty minutes, can be deduced from a resolution signed in recent days by the director general ofAsl Salerno, Gennaro Sosto: the manager ofAgency Of via Nicein fact, gave the green light to the extension of the assignments for the specialists of Admission and Emergency Medicine and Surgery called to temporarily fill the gaps while awaiting the definition of the regional “competition” carried out in recent months to hire doctors on a permanent basis to be assigned to the emergency rooms of hospitals in the entire province of Salerno.

The gaps to cover

That announcement, however, turned out to be practically a flop. And, therefore, until the end of 2024 (at least for the moment…) it will still be up to the “token operators” to fill the staff gaps. With a huge increase in spending that will weigh on the coffers of the healthcare company.
