Emergency repair on E17 in Zwijndrecht completed: “Keep in mind traffic jam” (Zwijndrecht)

Zwijndrecht

If you have to travel from Ghent to Antwerp on Thursday, it is better to avoid the E17. Due to an emergency repair in Zwijndrecht, two lanes were blocked until just after 1 pm. The works have now been completed, but there is still a traffic jam as far as Sint-Niklaas.

Just before 9 a.m., the center lane near Zwijndrecht was closed. “A joint had come loose in that lane,” explains spokesperson Annik Dirkx of Oosterweelbouwheer Lantis. “Because it became too dangerous for road users, it was decided to carry out emergency repairs.”

The contractor arrived. The right-hand lane was also closed to allow sufficient space for the work. Lantis hoped to have the works completed by 3 p.m., but about two hours earlier the redeeming message came that the works had been completed.

Due to the works, in combination with the thunderstorm, there is still a long traffic jam in the direction of Antwerp. Traffic to Antwerp loses at least two hours on the E17. “Keep in mind traffic jams from Sint-Niklaas”, reports the Flemish Traffic Center.

Long-distance traffic from Bruges to Antwerp is best to use the E34. From Ghent to Antwerp it is best to take the R4 East towards the same E34. The traffic from Ghent to Hasselt then detours via Brussels.
