Emergency PPKM Will be Extended, State in Military Emergency

Yogyakarta

The government is said to be extending the policy of the Enforcement of Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM) Emergency which was due to be completed on 20 July. This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy on the sidelines of his visit to the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Friday (16/7). Here are the facts about the extension of the Emergency PPKM:

1. It is said that it will be extended until the end of July

Policy Emergency PPKM in Java-Bali will be extended until the end of July. The extension of the Emergency PPKM period was disclosed by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy.

“Earlier, the limited cabinet meeting that I attended when I was in Sukoharjo, it was decided by the President (Emergency PPKM) to continue until the end of July. Until the end of July PPKM,” said Muhadjir when visiting the University Club UGM Hotel which was used as a shelter for Corona patients, Sleman, Friday (16 /7/2021).

2. The country is in a state of martial law

The spike in COVID-19 cases in Indonesia is still not under control. The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK), Muhadjir Effendy, even said that the current state of the Corona pandemic was a military emergency.

“Actually, the current government even though it is not declared, we are in a state of military emergency. So if the emergency measures are civil order, civil emergency, military emergency, war emergency, now it’s military emergency,” said Muhadjir while reviewing the University Hotel The UGM Club, which is used as a shelter for Corona patients, in Sleman, Friday (16/7/2021).

Muhadjir said that Indonesia was currently at war with the enemy, the invisible COVID-19 virus.

“Why? Because we are dealing with an invisible enemy and this invisible enemy in the battle does not use the rules of the law of war. Because everyone is considered a combatant by COVID-19,” he explained.

3. Corona social assistance cannot be borne by the state alone

Muhadjir said that social assistance cannot be borne by the state alone. Therefore, according to him, there is a need for community cooperation regarding social assistance.

“Therefore, it is impossible for the government to pay for the social assistance by the state itself. The community works together,” he said.

On that occasion, he also invited the UGM academic community to help disadvantaged communities during Emergency PPKM.

“Including the UGM academic community under the rector, I ask for a movement to help those who are less fortunate as a result of this PPKM,” said Muhadjir.
