Emergency negotiations have begun regarding the urgent works of the Stradiņa hospital building

It is planned that the external contours of the building will be closed in September 2024, thus ensuring the stability of the internal climatic conditions. In general, the urgent construction works are planned to be completed in December 2024.

In the third stage of the works, it is planned to ensure the construction of the remaining amount of construction works until the building is put into operation, and this also means attracting a new general contractor. The estimated duration of the procurement procedure, including the conclusion of the contract, is until the end of 2024, the start of construction works is planned for the beginning of 2025, and the works are planned to be completed by the end of 2026.

As reported, the contract with SIA “Velve” was terminated on February 13, when the builder admitted his inability to fulfill his contractual obligations.

Last fall, due to concerns about the risk of losing European Union funding, the hospital board was dismissed from their positions and a new temporary board was elected, whose main tasks are to conduct an external construction audit and ensure the involvement of a mediation service provider for the successful implementation of the project.

In November, “Velve” completed the facade works of the A2 building of the hospital, therefore the facade of the new building is closed to protect it from the adverse effects of weather conditions. However, at the end of the month, mold was discovered in the basement of the hospital’s new A2 building due to an incorrect construction sequence. The presence of mold spores is a very serious threat to the future hospital and the safety of its patients, as the project envisages that the newly created operating block and the Emergency Medical Center will be located in the basement area, which means that the presence of mold spores is not allowed under any circumstances.

After the completion of the cleaning works of the contractor’s basement premises in the basement, PSKUS attracted mutually agreed independent experts from both Riga Stradins University (RSU) and the “Bior” laboratory, who will carry out additional tests to determine whether the work in the mentioned area can be continued safely and the mold has been completely eliminated .
