Emergency due to rains: La Libertad registers 1 death and 6,190 homeless – News from Trujillo, La Libertad, Peru

The La Libertad region has so far registered one death, 6,190 people affected and 20,435 affected as a result of the intense rains that have generated flooding after the activation of ravines and flooding of rivers in the provinces of Chepén, Pacasmayo, Ascope and Trujillo, reported the Regional Emergency Operations Center (COER).

In this preliminary report of the COER it is also revealed that there are 1,191 collapsed houses and 6,144 affected in 20 districts of these four provinces; however, there are other districts that have not been included despite being affected by the rains.

In the Chepen Province There are 156 homeless people and 39 collapsed houses in the capital district of the same name and 24 homeless people and 5 collapsed houses in the Pueblo Nuevo district.

The most affected districts in the province of Pacasmayo are San Pedro de Lloc with 402 victims and 92 uninhabitable houses, Guadalupe with 120 victims, Pacasmayo with 240 victims and 15 collapsed houses, Jequetepeque registers 1,208 victims, 300 collapsed houses and 2 uninhabitable; while in San José there are a total of 361 victims and 85 collapsed houses.

For its part, in the province of Ascope, the most affected district is Chicama with 400 victims, 50 collapsed houses and 50 uninhabitable; Casa Grande has 8 victims and 2 collapsed houses. Meanwhile, the districts of Ascope, Chocope, Magdalena de Cao, Rázuri, Paiján and Santiago de Cao only register affected people and homes.

In the Trujillo province, capital of the La Libertad region, the most critical point is undoubtedly in the district of La Esperanza, since the overflow of the El León ravine left 2,890 people homeless and 720 houses collapsed; Huanchaco follows with a deceased person, 250 victims and 30 uninhabitable houses; while El Porvenir registers 120 victims, 15 houses collapsed and 15 uninhabitable.

In Víctor Larco, 21 victims and 7 collapsed houses; while Laredo only registers affected people and homes, but this could change due to the activation of five streams this Monday afternoon as a result of the intense rain that said district has endured.

The COER authorities asked local governments to fill out the EDAN forms, as it is the only mechanism by which the Regional Government of La Libertad manages to make humanitarian aid effective. (Andean).
