The cold is approaching and the snow begins to activate emergency plans for the danger that its accumulation represents, as in the case of Snow coming to New York and forced to declare a state of emergency from this Thursday 17 November.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that it applies to parts of the western part of the state. The emergency is due to the fact that the snowfall is potentially dangerous.

The National Weather Service expects up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) of snow or more through Sundaywhich “could cripple” hard-hit communities, including Buffalo, con almost zero periods of visibility. It also warned of accumulations of 2 feet (0.6 meters) or more in parts of northern Michigan.

The state of emergency covers 11 counties, with commercial truck traffic banned on a stretch of Interstate 90 southwest of Buffalo.

Snowfall should have its own higher intensity from Thursday evening and from 7pm on Friday 18 November.

“I want people in Western New York to take this seriously,”

said Hochul.

The governor updated a status on her social networks in which she stressed that the storm represents a large impact and mitigation conditions are in place. “Be smart, be safe and stay off the streets” condemned.

People are advised to avoid getting out in their cars unnecessarily, as visibility behind the wheel will be affected. On the other hand, freezing temperatures threaten your health in cases where you are not prepared to walk without adequate protection.
