The reason was a disturbance with the telephone company. However, the police, fire brigade and European emergency number were available.
The emergency numbers 144 (Red Cross), 141 (medical emergency service) and 140 (mountain rescue) were not available nationwide for around two and a half hours on Monday evening in Salzburg. As a Red Cross spokeswoman said, the reason was a problem with the telephone company. The problem occurred around 7:30pm and the error was resolved just before 10pm. Emergency calls from the police, fire brigade and the European emergency number 112 were always available.
At the end of September, the fire brigade emergency number 122 did not work for a short time in the state of Salzburg. According to the country, the reason for this was a software glitch from the telecom provider. Only the state capital was not affected by the bankruptcy at the time.
